Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your driver/guide will meet you at your Arusha hotel for a briefing before departing at 8am for the drive south across the Maasai Steppe to Tarangire.   After lunch you’ll embark on your first game drive in this exquisite park; crossed by a large river attracting huge herds of migrating wildebeest and zebra in the dry season.  Year-round Tarangire boasts an impressive resident population that includes lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, honey badger and giraffe along with a variety of antelope.  With over 550 species of birds the park attracts bird watchers from around the world and some lucky visitors get to see rare African wild dogs.

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

Following breakfast you’ll depart for incredible Serengeti National Park.  You’ll see the scenery change dramatically from dry plains to thick rainforest as the jeep makes the ascent into the Highlands.  You’ll stop to enjoy a breathtaking panorama over Ngorongoro Crater before continuing your drive through Maasai pastoral country to the Serengeti.  You’ll start looking for wildlife as soon as you pass through the gates, allowing time for encounters with some of the thousands of Serengeti animals before heading to your lodge for dinner.

Day 3: On safari in Serengeti

A full day of game viewing in this internationally acclaimed national park awaits.  With or without the presence of the annual migration, the Serengeti offers unforgettable game viewing in a magnificent setting.  There is a large resident population of big cats, elephants and buffalo along with hundreds of bird species.  The dramatic savannah, dotted with rocky outcrops and trees, showcases a dreamy African landscape where many varieties of antelope browse.  If the migration is in season, you could see herds of wildebeest and zebra many thousand-strong with predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena in hot pursuit.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast you’ll be driven back into the Highlands where you’ll begin the steep descent to the floor of Ngorongoro Crater. Your day promises to be magical as you explore this unique ecosystem that is bursting with wildlife including lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and hyena along huge herds of grazing animals such as wildebeest, buffalo and zebra.   Ostrich and flamingos are among the hundreds of plentiful bird species.  Later that afternoon your jeep will take you on the thrilling ascent to the crater rim and on to your lodge for dinner.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Following breakfast you’ll be treated to another a magical day in Ngorongoro exploring this unique ecosystem that is bursting with wildlife.  That afternoon you’ll make the steep drive out of the crater one last time, then head back to Arusha where your Tanzanian safari experience sadly comes to an end.
